meet Jean

Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by. Be Brilliant is an expression of my life’s purpose: to help people see their own unique brilliance and trust what the evidence already tells them. I passionately believe we all possess qualities and characteristics that make us uniquely, magnificently brilliant. We’re just not always very good at recognizing and owning them.

Recognizing our own brilliance is something we all did as kids, but life happens, and we forget how to see it clearly. We begin to doubt and second-guess, comparing ourselves to others and deciding we don’t measure up. We lose trust in our own evidence and try to fake our way through, hoping no one sees through the performance.

How I got here

I didn’t set out to do this work. I began my career at IBM, spending fifteen years building systems, managing complex projects, and navigating the realities of large organizations. I earned my Executive MBA because I wanted to understand business and leadership at the highest levels.

I became an executive coach because I was good at helping people show up more effectively. We worked on presence, communication, leadership challenges, and navigating organizational dynamics. The work was solid. The results were real.

The pattern I couldn’t ignore

Over time, I began to see the same pattern again and again.

Capable, accomplished people with the experience and credentials, who still couldn’t quite believe what that experience proved about them. Leaders who could build a case for anyone else’s brilliance faster than their own.

They weren’t lacking ability.
They weren’t unmotivated.
They weren’t broken.

They were experiencing what I now call the Truth Gap: the distance between the evidence of their capability and what they’ll actually let themselves believe.

Traditional executive coaching, as valuable as it is, doesn’t always reach that layer.

What I Actually Believe

After years of doing this work, this is what I know to be true:
Every person is uniquely brilliant.

Not in a vague or feel-good way, but in a very real one. Each of us carries a specific constellation of gifts, character, and experience that no one else has in quite the same form.

And for most people, the evidence of that brilliance is there, but it doesn’t get counted the way it should.

What comes naturally gets dismissed as ordinary.
Accomplishments become history instead of evidence.
Someone else’s strengths become the measuring stick for our own.

So we learn to compare instead of trust.
We perform certainty instead of trusting what the evidence supports.
We succeed by external measures while quietly discounting the evidence that we already are what we’re working so hard to prove.

This work exists to correct that.

Not by fixing you.
Not by making you more impressive.
Not by adding another layer of achievement.

But by helping you see accurately what’s already true.

Why This Integration Matters

Here’s what experience has taught me:
You can’t sustainably improve presence without an accurate picture of who you are underneath it.

You can master leadership behaviors and still doubt yourself if you don’t believe the evidence behind them.

You can learn every communication technique and still feel like you’re performing.

The most powerful leaders aren’t performing leadership.
They’re leading from what they know to be true about themselves.
That requires work that integrates the professional and the personal.
The strategic and the human.

Outer effectiveness and inner accuracy.
That’s where I work.

Caught Between Two Worlds

The leaders I work with often tell me they feel caught between two worlds.
Too grounded for traditional transformational work.
Looking for more depth than standard leadership development provides.

They need both.

Someone who understands quarterly earnings and identity evolution.
Someone who speaks the language of the boardroom and the language of inner truth.

That’s the gap I bridge.

Case Zero

Let me say this plainly: I would be lying if I told you I’ve always seen my own brilliance clearly.

For more years than I can count, I’ve coached accomplished people. I could see their gifts, often before they could see them themselves. I could recognize what was distinctive about how they thought, led, connected, and contributed.

But when I turned that same lens on myself, somehow the same logic didn’t apply.

What came naturally felt ordinary. Accomplishments became things I’d simply done. Compliments were easy to explain away. I could make a compelling case for someone else’s brilliance while discounting the evidence of my own.

And I lived accordingly. I doubted myself. I questioned whether I measured up. I held back while people with no more evidence than I had stepped forward.

Not because the evidence wasn’t there.

Somehow, not all of it counted.

I remember one of the moments it took root. Junior high graduation, a small Texas town, a white lace dress, feeling pretty for the first time. And overhearing my mother say, on the phone: “I’m hoping Jeannie outgrows this ugly duckling stage soon.” That sentence lodged itself deeply. It took decades to understand what it actually did: not prove something was wrong with me, but teach me to discount evidence to the contrary.

What changed wasn’t more accomplishment. It was learning to ask a different question.

What have I been leaving out of the evidence?

I didn’t need someone to tell me to be more confident.

I needed to understand why the evidence and my picture of myself didn’t match.

That question is the reason this work exists. I’m Case Zero. Everything I teach, I built by asking it of myself first.

My Approach

I work at the intersection of:

  • Corporate leadership experience and real organizational understanding
  • Executive coaching and leadership development
  • Evidence-based identity work
  • Style and presence mastery, for those who want their outer presentation to reflect what’s already true inside
  • Lived experience, because I’ve walked this path myself

Most people live in one world or the other.
I live in both, and I help you integrate them.

Who I Work With

I work with people who:

  • Have achieved external success but don’t fully believe what it proves about them
  • Recognize the Truth Gap: the distance between their evidence and what they let themselves believe
  • Want depth without losing credibility
  • Are tired of comparison and performance
  • Are ready to lead and live from what they already know to be true

Many of my clients are women. Some are men.
What matters isn’t your title.
It’s your readiness.

If you feel the gap, you’re in the right place.
