In the realm of things that aren’t very important overall but drive me crazy in the day-to-day details, I have a few pet peeves. The first one I shared was about the unusability of eyeshadow palettes.

So here’s another one (this is probably going to become a series!):  My Eyebrows. One of the downsides of having wimpy hair is that it is wimpy all over my body – head, eyelashes, eyebrows, legs, underarms. I’ll share my embarrassing stories about the hair on my head and my eyelashes another time. Today, it’s all about my eyebrow journey.

Eyebrows are super important – they create a frame for the rest of your face. Without brows, the rest of your features don’t know what to do with themselves. Don’t believe me? Take a look at these photos.

My eyebrows have never been the thick, beautiful caterpillars that I wanted (á la Brooke Shields, Audrey Hepburn, or Cara Delivingne). In fact, eyebrows are the sole thing I have in common with Pamela Lee Anderson (see photos above).

My eyebrow journey has been long and rocky, from overplucking, to tattooing, to microblading, and finally to non-existence (the current state). Having given up on “permanent” fixes, I have resorted to attempting to find the best tools to create a “natural” brow.

I’m not a fan of the painted-on brow which is popular right now (again, see photos above). And I’m no artist; I’ve tried soooooo many different brow products trying to find one that doesn’t look like I took a Sharpie to my face.

I have found my very best success with an inexpensive drugstore product:  NYX Lift & Snatch Eyebrow Pen (don’t ask me, I have no idea what “snatch” means here!). I find this product very easy to draw eyebrow hairs that look sort of, actually, kind of, like hair. For my coloring, I use the Ash Brown color and then add a little of the Espresso. I darken them with NYX Thick It Stick It Brow Mascara (which I also use to cover gray around my hairline).

I’ll never have the brows of my dreams, but at least with this product I can still have brows on my face! It’s helped me a lot; if you’re in a similar boat with your brows, it might help you too. If you try it, let me know how you do with it.
