On a scale of life’s challenges, choosing the right eyeshadow rates at least a minus 3. But sometimes, it’s the littlest things that tip the scale. For me, one of those things is eyeshadow. As much as I love glitter and bling and sparkly things, I am no longer of an age that I want it on my eyelids. (But it reminds me of the dark green glitter eyeshadow I wore every day to high school, along with daily arguments about it with my Dad.)

These days when I go shopping for shadows, it seems that most of the palettes are best suited for Toddlers & Tiaras or RuPaul’s Drag Race. The last time I went shopping for shadows, the 20-something salesperson with bright yellow and red glitter eyelids told me that, if I would apply it correctly, I could wear glittery shadows without emphasizing the wrinkles. Yep, she was super helpful. Is anyone else annoyed at purchasing a palette of 8 that contains only 2 colors you’ll actually wear?

I’ve found a wonderful solution for those of us who’d like to have a palette that contains ONLY colors we’ll wear! BUXOM cosmetics has a customizable palette of 6 that allows you to choose from 22 different options. The shadows are excellent quality and long-wearing, paraben-free and no animal testing. Although you’ll find BUXOM cosmetics in stores, the customizable palette is not; I’ve only found it on their website. I don’t know why other manufacturers don’t offer customizable options, as this is brilliant. And, the very best part is that when you use up one color, you can replace it without having to toss the whole thing! Like I said, it’s the little things…

If you decide to try it, here are a few suggestions:

  • Here’s a LINK to the customizable palette I’m referring to.
  • Remember that your best color choices work WITH your coloring, not against it. So if you look best in warmer colors, choose warmer eyeshadows (camel and warm brown); if you’re more cool, go with the cooler colors (grays and taupes).
  • Pay attention to matte vs. shimmer vs. sparkly so that you’re not surprised by what you receive. You can better see the individual colors and their descriptions at this LINK.
  • Be aware that BUXOM has a 30-day return policy, but you can’t just return one eyeshadow, you have to return the whole palette and start over, so choose carefully.
  • Notice that there’s a pop-up with a 15% discount when you enter the site.

I’d love to know what you think about this, and if you need help choosing colors, let me know!
