As you’ve probably realized by now, I’m a firm believer in using what we wear to help us increase our confidence and remember our power (HERE’s a reminder). The truth is that we all have those moments (at least I think we do? Am I the only one?!!) when our confidence wanes and we imagine we just don’t have what it takes.

I’m a big advocate of anything we can use to support us in remembering our true power and confidence. Robert Fritz, a brilliant musician, author, and business consultant who focuses on helping us create our best lives, teaches that we must build rails – like the tracks for a train – that make it easier for us to go the direction we want to go. I’m all for “easy,” aren’t you?

One of the tools (rails) that many of us already use is music. I have my list of favorite power songs playlist that I whip out regularly, sometimes to start my day and other times to lift my spirits. (Here’s a link to one of my new favorites – the video’s a little weird but the sentiment is great.)

But here’s something you might not know:  research shows that listening to songs with heavy bass increases our sense of confidence. “The effect of music appears to manifest itself not only in its ability to entertain, but also in the ability to imbue humans with a real sense of power,” according to researcher Dennis Y. Hsu, a professor at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

It’s worth a try, right? Check out Bill Withers’ Lovely Day or The Commodores’ Brick House (yep, showing my age here!) and see if they add to your feelings of confidence and power. And if you really want to dive in, HERE’s a great list to help you get started.

Let me know your favorite power song so I can add it to my list!
